The Moulin de la Materette is a substantially built old water Mill converted to a very high standard by the owners Nick & Fran Davidson. It has seven double rooms each with their own facilities. a well equipped kitchen and a vast open plan living room with dining table and chairs for 24 and a lounge area in front of a large log burner. Ideal for early and late holidays.. The Moulin is set into 10 acres of private grounds, including lawns, orchards flower beds irrigated by a recently installed automatic sprinkler system. It is situated amidst some of the most beautiful scenery in France with easy access to the spectacular Pyrenees, Cathar castles and countless other attractions.
20 metres to the East of the Moulin is the recently converted Grange. The convertion has successfully combined the ancient collombage (Oak timber framed) with a modern timber cladding. Reroofed and insulated to a high standard. The Grange provides 4 more en suite double rooms on the Ist & second floor. in addittion it houses the large light filled studio /gallery (Used for our art and photography courses) On the ground floor are our Woodturning and Woodworking workshops plus a large laundry.
40 meteres to the west of the Moulin there is an exquisite large heated pool (13 x 6 m) set into a large flagged surround. Next to the pool is a hacienda pool hut/bar with semi shaded pergola, a good place to escape the heat of the day. Next to the Hacienda is a Badminton Court, Table Tennis Table and 10ft Chess board with turned pieces. Beyond the pool area is a Nut orchard, fields and woods by the river Arize. The pool is checked daily to maintain it in perfect crystal clear condition.
In front of the Moulin is a large terra cotta tiled covered terrace, shaded at lunch time, but in sunshine in the morning and evening. It has a table that will seat up to 24 wher you can dine in the open but under cover from the elements. In Front of the Terrace are the Croquet Lawn and Boules pitch.
The Moulin is set into 10 acres of private grounds. Formal lawns, 2 orchards, woods and pastures. It includes a beautiful walk on a wooded island that ends up at a beach in front of the Cascade. An ideal place to enjoy the sights and sounds of nature. Kingfishers, Dippers, Nuthatches, Tree Creepers, Wagtails, Various tits & Finches frequent the grounds, even the occasional Golden Oriel. Overhead, buzzards, Kites and occasionally Eagles can be seen soaring.
